straddling existential dread and sheer ecstasy

I’ve spent some time tonight trying to get my OMPL file “shared.” I’ve started by posting it to Share Your OPML. I then decided that I wanted to use this as my blogroll - I hadn’t posted the internal wordpress blogroll to the new theme so it seemed better to utilize an existing structure to post links (I wasn’t interested in WP’s internal OPML importing). So yes, down the rabbit’s hole - grabbed an OPML parser, hacked that up to produce the relevant code for the OPML file, grabbed the moo.fx library so I could use the accordion plugin (in the old days this wasn’t a plugin which shows how far the moo library has come) and then styled it up a bit so I wouldn’t gouge my eyes out.
It’s still not pretty but it’s there. And the one thing I’ve noticed as I’ve done this is how out of whack my feeds are - they really aren’t categorized very well and the titles that come through for many of these just aren’t appropriate or easy to follow. Even my own feed (which i subscribe to myself so as to keep track) was not quite right. I used the overrides in feedburner to fix that (just a note in case your reader decides to update things). Still an interesting exercise and while I’m not done-done, it’s close enough for me to go ahead and plop it onto the homepage (it’s halfway down the sidebar). It’s all about iterations, right? ![]()
