straddling existential dread and sheer ecstasy

After finding the flickr plugin (which was asked for by the new Hemingway layout), I decided to go for broke and add the netflix plugin as well. Now everyone can see what we’re watching at home (pervs!). Simple plugin, straightforward, easy to install and I got a nice listing towards the bottom of the page. Nice.

I think it’s interesting that this theme is entitled “Hemingway”, because I’m not sure if the sentiment really fits. Feels more like…feels more like a haiku if anything…sparse, minimal, yet complex. Anyhow, I really do like this theme. It took some massaging of the stylesheet and the index file to get it just the way I wanted it. I added height to the story/details area (actually added a “content” class in between) so I could establish height. I couldn’t stand that there was an uneven feel between each story if the stories were short (call me “anal” but the cacophonous feel of it made me want to scratch a chalkboard). I also installed the Flickr RSS Plugin which is straightforward enough. The last thing I need to fix is the excerpt work. I don’t like that it just falls off…definitely needs to have the “read on” at the end of the excerpt — without anything it looks broke…not terrible, but not friendly either. It’d be nice to have some color somewhere too, but I’m not sure where I want to splash that just yet. Oddly enough, I found this theme while rummaging around stuff for Typo (which is soon to go 4.0).

Update: Wow, got both done. Now there’s some nice color a la the new flickr plugin (check out below). And I even got it to show the full primary post (only). Very nice. Now all that’s left is figuring out the excerpt to the “read on” area. w00t! Ya know, looks fairly crappy in Windows (not so bad on FF) - Lucida really does render so beautifully on Mac…
